ACUPUNCTURE AT REMEDI

Due to an interstate relocation to Tasmania, the clinic is now closed. We will announce the location of our new clinic in beautiful Tasmania very soon.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest health care systems in the world. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that acupuncture is now used in over 100 countries to treat a wide range of acute and chronic diseases and there is an extensive and growing body of global evidence supporting acupuncture’s effectiveness in improving health.

THE BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is appropriate for most people in all stages of life from pregnancy and paediatrics through to the elderly. Treatment is always adapted for the individual's unique healthcare needs with the benefits of acupuncture including:

The British Acupuncture Council has also compiled a database of evidence Fact Sheets supporting the use of acupuncture for over 60 conditions which can be accessed here.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK

Acupuncture points are located along blood vessel, lymphatic and neural pathways in the body and for a number of decades now science has been actively studying the various mechanisms into how acupuncture works and it's clinical application.  It is generally understood that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system setting off a biochemical cascade to improve overall bodily function and enhance healing.  Acupuncture modulates imbalance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system, influences vascular, hormonal, immune and organ function and acts as an analgesic for pain through various mechanisms that act globally on the body.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR PAIN

Acupuncture is widely known for its effectiveness in the treatment of pain. Its unique role in reducing suffering in patients experiencing pain is one of the main reasons it has become so popular around the world. The research is plentiful on the effects of acupuncture on specific painful conditions.  You can read more about acupuncture for pain here.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR ANXIETY

The latest research shows that acupuncture is an effective treatment for anxiety. Studies show that acupuncture for anxiety is more effective than medication and comparable to talking therapy. You can read more about the clinical evidence here.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and create a minimal sensation during treatment often described as a dull ache or tingle. Joanne also incorporates other pain free acupuncture methods such as laser and micro-current when required. Many people state they experience a deep relaxation during treatment that can continue into the following day.  As acupuncture has a global effect on your whole body it is common to see an improvement in not only the health concern being treated but also in overall health as well.
Here's some helpful information on what to expect and how to prepare for your first acupuncture appointment. If you are not sure or have further questions, why not give Joanne Morin a call as she is always open to answering questions and helping people determine if acupuncture is right for them.

OTHER SERVICES

To optimise health outcomes Joanne usually recommends a combination of acupuncture therapy and Chinese herbal medicine. If required she will also incorporate other therapies such as moxibustion, cupping, guasha and laser therapy along with healthy lifestyle changes. HICAPS and most health fund rebates are available for eligible patients. You can also purchase gift certificates for family and friends.
